More
and more people begin to collect tennis rackets especially old and rare
new ones. It is an intriguing and at the same time rewarding hobby. If
you had bought a few lopsided rackets for little money in the 80s or 90s
you
could sell it now for may be 3500 dollars or Euros not to speak of the joy you
had while collecting rackets and presenting them on the walls of your
home. This gives your home an unequalled and individual appearance.
You
will acquire a fascinating hobby for a long time to come.
. |
|
When you have already a small or larger collection you will be eager to
know more about the rackets in your collection. Where can you find it?
There are some books available on the market but until now the
Book of Tennis
Rackets
which
was written by Siegfried Kuebler in 2000 who invented by the way the Widebody
rackets "Profile" marketed by the Wilson Sporting Goods Company in the
late 80s and early 90s is still unsurpassed to our knowledge. And an
new Update 2010 to the Book is now available.
This
fascinating book contains about 1000 colour photos of rackets and
accessories.

Many racket manufacturers from 1880 until 1990 are listed and discussed.
Thus you will most likely be able to find your old racket and date it.
Is it an old English racket?
An American one or even a French or German make? Is it rare and much
sought for by collectors?
The
book has 640 pages and weighs 3 kg. Many construction details are given
by discussing granted patents for rackets. Therefore the book is also
interesting for the technical interested tennis player.
Did you
ever look for a present for the president of your tennis club or any
other friend who is an engaged tennis player? An unusual one? This book
will be a personal present and certainly a real surprise! He might find
his old racket in the book that he used at one time.

Gerald
Gurney,
founder
of the "Tennis Collectors' Society", reviewed the book:
|
"It is
clear that rackets and books are the most popular items for collectors;
indeed, these are both so eagerly sought that it is difficult to think
what comes in third place. Any suggestions? Books, by their very nature,
nearly always contain all the information that the reader might wish to
know - title, author, date, publisher, price - but rackets are very
different, and to discover even the name of the manufacturer can often
be very difficult.
This is why
Siegfried
Kuebler's book
is so immensely valuable to the collector of lawn tennis rackets. Since
the publication of his 'Buch der Tennisrackets' in 1995, I have referred
to it almost daily, and it has rarely failed to give me some useful
information on the manufacturer, a date, or a 'model name'. Among the
new material in the English version of the book, I was most intrigued by
an extensive survey of the various woods originally employed in
racket-making. More manufacturers are now listed - and many more
examples of their products. And all this is illustrated with hundreds of
Siegfried's own quality photographs, all in colour except for the
advertisements form catalogues.
The Book of Tennis Rackets has been keenly anticipated by all serious
collectors; it has no rival as an authoritative and handsome book of
reference. I consider myself privileged to have played a small part in
its production."

Gianni
Clerici,
author of the "Ultimate Tennis Book" (500 Anni di Tennis), wrote:
|
"What a
man! What a book! The book is, in it's way, as good as '500 years'! A
book that had to be written. Now, have it translated into English."

Heiner
Gillmeister,
author of the book "Tennis, a Cultural History", said:
|
"Here
we have finally a basic book from an expert about the complicated matter
of tennis. |

Dear Herr Kuebler,
I just wanted
to let you know that my copy of your book arrived yesterday.
It is wonderful!
It has already given me a wealth of information and will add to my
interest and knowledge of the older rackets.
Thank you so much for signing my copy.
Aces!
Jim, Chicago
Dear Mr. Kuebler,
My wife gave me
your book for Christmas, and I am delighted with it. I have an original
Italian version of Gianni Clerici's 500 Years of Tennis, and the two

seen. - Thank you for the personalized dedication you inscribed.
